Movie Review: Kung Fu Panda 3

Hi readers,
I just can’t get enough of Kung Fu Panda! I got to see the all-new third movie recently, and it’s finally coming to theaters today. Yippee! Check out the trailer below and then read on to see what I thought of it.
In Kung Fu Panda 3, kung fu master Po reunites with his long-lost panda dad. They travel to the secret panda village so Po can learn what it means to be a panda. Turns out being a panda means eating a lot and sleeping in. Sounds pretty great, right?
It’s not all dumplings and naptime, though. There’s a new bad guy on the loose, and if Po wants to protect his panda family, he’ll have to teach them to defend themselves. He’ll have to teach them kung fu!
The problem: Po’s not good at teaching, and he knows it. But giving up isn’t an option, so he tries and tries and tries some more.  My favourite quote from the movie: “If you only do what you can do, you will never be more than you are.”
Things I like about this movie:

• All my favourite characters are back. Shifu and the Furious Five are just as awesome as ever. And it’s lots of fun to watch them training with clumsy Po!
• We see that families come in all shapes and sizes. Po loves his panda dad, but that doesn’t mean he loves his adoptive goose dad any less.
• The bad guy, Kai, is really funny.

If you like cute, funny, action-filled movies, Kung Fu Panda 3 is for you. If you do go see it, be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!

Kung Fu Panda Felt Masks

Skadoosh! Kung Fu Panda 3 is hitting theaters today! If your kids walk out of the theater sporting all of their ninja moves, I designed these felt masks to help them feel like they are a part of the kung fu magic!

Kung Fu Panda Mask Supplies

Various colors of craft or wool felt (see each template)
Scissors
Ribbon or elastic
Packing tape
Pipe cleaner (for Mantis)
Yarn (for Master Shifu)
Craft glue
Templates (see below)

Kung Fu Panda Mask Directions

Print out the template for the mask you want to make:

Po
Master Shifu
Tigress
Viper
Crane
Monkey
Mantis

First cut out the templates on paper. They look like this:

I find the easiest way to cut the templates in the felt is to use packing tape to secure the paper to the felt. I read about this on a blog somewhere and now I can’t find it (if you know who it is, let me know and I’ll link!)

Then use scissors to cut them out. Because the tape never touches the felt below the paper, it doesn’t ruin the felt.

Once you have all the pieces cut out, glue them together based on the diagram on the template. You can use a little white yarn for Shifu’s mustache and a green pipe cleaner bent in half for Mantis’ antennae.

To attach the ribbon or elastic, cut little slits where indicated on the pattern and simply tie a piece long enough to go around your child (or your!) head.
